The story
At Historium on Bruges’ Market Square, visitors step back into the fifteenth century, the time of Jan van Eyck. Simon works there as sales and reservations manager. He looks after school visits and other groups, from the first enquiry to the invoice afterwards. With a new website, Historium also wanted to do more with online ticket sales. The old system left little room for that.
How it worked before
Previously, everyone bought the same ticket online at the same price. It was valid for six months and visitors came whenever it suited them. That worked, but Simon wanted more options for pricing, promotions and the different experiences at Historium.
Simon wanted to adjust prices, measure promotions with discount codes and show visitors the extra experiences they could book. The new system also had to stay easy for colleagues to use.
What Booqi changed
Booqi now makes that possible. Visitors choose between a discounted ticket for a specific date and an open-dated ticket valid for six months at the regular price. Historium can also offer extra experiences and use discount codes to see how a promotion performs.
The connection with the existing tills was an important reason for Historium to choose Booqi. The team could keep using its tills while doing more with online ticket sales. Historium went live with Booqi on 2 September 2026, alongside its new website.
What works well now
Simon has noticed more people choosing a set date for their visit. The team had not quite expected that. They want to keep experimenting and look at more dynamic pricing in time.
For staff, the main change was checking tickets. At reception and other stations, they can use a handheld scanner to see whether a ticket is still valid. Simon says this also makes it harder to pass a ticket on to someone else.
For colleagues, it has been a small adjustment. Simon says everyone is already comfortable with it. The team has more options, while checking a ticket remains simple.
How Simon feels about the support
Simon is very happy with the support. He appreciates that Booqi actively followed up throughout the project and answered his questions quickly. It also stayed simple for staff: they can check tickets with a handheld scanner and, Simon says, are already comfortable using it.
